ORLANDO - The UCF men's golf team will play the third of its five scheduled spring events beginning Sunday at Golden Eagle Country Club in Tallahassee, Fla. when play commences at the Seminole Intercollegiate. UCF, which finished third in last year's Seminole Intercollegiate, will be one of 13 teams competing for this year's title. Defending champion Coastal Carolina returns, as does runner-up Vanderbilt.
"We will face a strong field in this event so a good finish will go a long way toward moving us up in the regional and national rankings," UCF coach Nick Clinard said. "We showed signs of turning the corner last time out and this is an opportunity for us to build on that. We have a different lineup than we've used all year so I'm anxious to see how the guys respond."
UCF is coming off an eighth-place showing at the Gator Invitational. The Golden Knights posted a strong closing round and jumped three spots in the final standings. Freshman Greg Forest was UCF's highest finisher at the Gator Invitational, tying for 13th.
Forest will be in the lineup this week along with senior Sonny Nimkhum who was UCF's top golfer in qualifying. He will be making his second appearance of the year, while junior Steven Bain will be making his first appearance of the season. They will be joined by sophomore Giwon Suh and freshman Kyle Davis.
Suh is the only UCF golfer in this week's lineup that participated in this event last year. He tied for 56th.
