Women's Rowing Competes on Lake Maitland

March 25, 2006

WINTER PARK, Fla. - The UCF women's rowing team participated in the Rollins Spring Break Race on Lake Maitland on Saturday morning. The Golden Knights competed against Nova Southeastern and host Rollins.

UCF's varsity eight and varsity four lightweight boats both posted impressive times. In the varsity eight race, UCF finished second at 6:36.3, five seconds back from Nova Southeastern's openweight boat.

"I was very happy with the varsity eight result," said UCF assistant coach Corrie McGrath said. "The girls were down at the start, but raced from behind and really kept up with Nova Southeastern."

Nova Southeastern narrowly claimed the varsity four event, clocking in at 7:12.1, just four-tenths of a second ahead of the Golden Knights.

"The varsity four was a great race," said McGrath. "Our girls hung in there and it was so close at the end."

Due to a cross tailwind pushing boats down the course, Saturday's event featured quick times.

UCF's lightweight boats will be in action again on April 8 at the Knecht Cup in Cherry Hill, N.J.
