UCF Concludes Boise State Tournament with a Win

BOISE, Idaho - The UCF men's tennis team concluded play at the Boise State Red Lion Spring Break Tournament on Saturday with a victory, defeating the College of Santa Fe, 4-3. The Golden Knights improve to 9-8 with the win and finished in seventh at the 16-team tournament.

The teams split the singles competition, but UCF claimed the doubles point to win the match. The College of Santa Fe (10-5) is ranked fourth nationally in the NAIA poll.

"We played a very good match against a strong opponent," said UCF head coach Bobby Cashman. "It was great to close the tournament with a win."

In doubles play, UCF's freshman tandem of Jimmy Roesch and Brock Sakey eased past Anibal Aranda and Juan Lorenzo at No. 3, 8-1. The Golden Knights also won at No. 1 doubles where freshman Tarek Ben Soltane and sophomore Sebastian Delgado topped Benny Althaus and Peter Sanska (8-6).

Sakey won one of three singles matches for UCF. At No. 3, he had no trouble with Lorenzo, posting a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

Ben Soltane topped Sanka, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 4. Delgado was also victorious in singles play. He topped Sascha Ruckelshausen at No. 3, 7-5, 6-2.

UCF finished the event with a 2-2 mark. The team played a pair of ranked opponents in Boise - Western Michigan (40) and Ball State (70).

The Golden Knights will be in action again on Thursday, hosting North Florida at 2 p.m.
