ORLANDO-The UCF softball team hosts Houston in a three-game Conference USA series Saturday and Sunday at the UCF Softball Stadium. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. both days. The Golden Knights enter the series with a season record of 13-20 and 0-6 in C-USA, while the Cougars are 21-12 and 3-3. The games will be broadcast live on the internet at www.ucfathletics.com.
The squads will play two games on Saturday and conclude the series with one contest on Sunday.
Scouting UCF...Cici Alvarez leads UCF with a .330 batting average, 33 hits, 22 runs, 14 walks and 10 sacrifice hits. Allison Kime is 9-8 in the circle for the Golden Knights with a 1.77 ERA. She has given up 49 runs on 95 hits with a C-USA leading 124 strikeouts in 122.1 innings of work.
Last Time Out...UCF dropped three games to Marshall last weekend (7-2, 6-1, 12-8) in Huntington, W.Va. Kacie Feaster was 5-for-9 at the plate with one home run, three RBI and two runs.
Next Up for UCF...The Golden Knights head to Hattiesburg, Miss. to take on Southern Miss April 1-2 for three games.
Scouting Houston...The Cougars enter the series with a 21-12 overall record and a 3-3 C-USA mark. Elaina Nordstrom leads the team with a .350 batting average. Candi Kloecker is 7-6 as a pitcher with an ERA of 1.36. Kloecker has given up 37 runs on 66 hits with 88 strikeouts.
Last Time Out...The Cougars went 1-2 against Tulsa last weekend in rain soaked Oklahoma. Houston won the final game of the series Monday afternoon, 5-4. Elaina Nordstrom went 3-for-4 with one run and two RBI. Carla Kennimer earned the win in the circle, pitching 1.1 innings and giving up one run on one hit with one strikeout.
Series vs. Houston...The Golden Knights and the Cougars have never met on the softball diamond before.
Tickets for the series are available at the gate, $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and children 5-17. Free for UCF students with valid school ID.
