BOISE, Idaho - Competing at the Boise State Red Lion Spring Break Tournament on Friday afternoon, the UCF men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 match to No. 40 Western Michigan at the Boise Racquet and Swim Club. The Golden Knights (8-8) will conclude the tournament on Saturday morning, playing the College of Santa Fe for seventh place at 11 a.m. Eastern.
Western Michigan (18-3) won four singles matches and also took all three doubles contests on Friday. UCF was facing a nationally-ranked team for the second time in as many days at the 16-team event. The squad played No. 70 Ball State on Thursday.
In singles play, sophomore Sinan Sudas recorded a victory at No. 2 singles for the Golden Knights. He rallied to top Jose Orozco, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. Freshman Tarek Ben Soltane topped the Broncos' Alex Birchmeir, 6-1, 7-6 (5) at No. 4.
On Friday, the College of Santa Fe lost to Texas-Arlington, 6-1. The team is currently fourth in the NAIA national rankings.
