UCF Brings Homestand to a Close with Dartmouth, UTEP This Weekend

March 23, 2006

ORLANDO - After winning its last three matches, the UCF women's tennis team focuses on closing out its five-match homestand against Dartmouth and UTEP on a high note. The Golden Knights open the weekend with the Big Green on Friday at 2 p.m., before facing the Miners on Saturday at 11 a.m.

With a 6-1 record at home and an overall mark of 8-6, UCF continues to capitalize on homecourt advantage. In their most recent match, the Golden Knights conquered visiting Murray State, 6-1, on Tuesday. Both senior captain Pamela Fernandez and sophomore Anna Yakimchenkova split sets before winning the tiebreaker to seal the victory over the Racers.

Visiting Florida for spring break, Dartmouth brings a 3-6 record to Orlando after dropping matches to Florida Atlantic and Miami earlier in the week. The last win for the Big Green came over UConn, 5-2, in Hanover, N.H.

UCF and Dartmouth will be competing for the first time on the courts.

Meeting UTEP on Saturday gives the Golden Knights their first chance to compete against a member of Conference USA. Due to conference regulations, C-USA does not compile league records, but the match allows UCF the opportunity to play a team that it could meet in league championship.

The Miners most recently lost 7-0 to Troy and enter Friday's contest at Stetson with a 6-9 mark. They hold a 1-0 advantage over the Golden Knights all-time.
