IRVING, Texas - UCF senior Ashley Grier was named Conference USA Women's Golfer of the Week as announced by the league office Thursday. Grier earned the honor as a result of her play at the Waterlefe Invitational in Bradenton, Fla. Tuesday. She finished alone in third in the individual standings while leading the Golden Knights to a runner-up finish in the 14-team field.
Grier shot rounds of 73, 78 and 81 in extremely windy conditions and finished the 54-hole event at 16-over-par. In the process, she lowered her stroke average on the season by nearly a full shot.
The third-place individual showing was the best of the year for Grier who became the first female from UCF to earn C-USA Golfer of the Week honors. UCF is in its first year of competition in Conference USA.
The Golden Knights are back in action at the Ryder Florida Women's Championship in Miami Lakes, March 31-April 2.
