ORLANDO - Visiting Indiana was too much for the Golden Knights on Saturday afternoon, topping the UCF men's tennis team, 5-2, at the UCF Tennis Complex. The Golden Knights (7-6) won the doubles point, but the Hoosiers claimed five of six singles matches to record the victory.
UCF opened the match by taking two doubles contests from the Hoosiers, who improve to 10-6 with the win. At No. 1, junior Sebastian Delgado and freshman Tarek Ben Soltane posted an 8-5 victory over Dmytro Ishtuganov and Dara McLoughlin. UCF's tandem of sophomore Sinan Sudas and freshman Norman Alcantara won at No. 2, defeating Peter Antons and David Bubenicek (8-6).
Indiana rebounded in singles play. The Hoosiers won all but one match in solo play. At No. 1, Ishtuganov was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Sudas.
"We did not have a good showing in singles today," said UCF head coach Bobby Cashman. "Indiana is a very good team and I give them a lot of credit. They played very well in singles and really competed out there."
Freshman Tarek Ben Soltane was victorious for the Golden Knights at No. 5 singles. He topped Michael McCarthy, 6-4, 6-3.
Indiana was playing the last contest of a five-match spring break trip to Florida.
The Golden Knights return to action on Thursday, heading to Idaho for the Boise State Classic.
