ORLANDO - Looking to improve its 6-5 record, the UCF women's tennis team hosts northern schools Buffalo and Minnesota in matches this weekend. The Golden Knights face the Bulls on Friday at 11 a.m. before squaring off against the Golden Gophers on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the UCF Tennis Complex.
UCF is coming off a road trip to Virginia, where the squad lost, 6-1, to a tough Richmond team then rebounded for close 4-3 win over Old Dominion. Sophomore Anna Yakimchenkova battled for consecutive wins at the No. 4 singles spot for the Golden Knights, bringing her record to 12-6.
Both of this weekend's opponents are enjoying spring break in Florida. With an 8-1 mark thus far this season, Buffalo is riding a five-match winning streak, including wins over Hillsborough Community College and Manhattan since arriving in the Sunshine State.
Minnesota, on the other hand, enters Friday's match with Stetson on a four-match losing skid and has a 3-8 overall record. The team's last win came on a 5-2 decision over Montana State on Feb. 25.
The Golden Knights have a 1-0 record all-time versus the Bulls, while they are meeting the Golden Gophers for the first time.
Admission to all home UCF tennis matches is free.
