ORLANDO - The UCF softball team makes its Conference USA debut Tuesday and Wednesday when the team plays host to Tulsa at the UCF Softball Stadium. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. both days. The game Tuesday will be the first played in the new UCF Softball Stadium and will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 12:55 p.m. Tuesday.The Golden Knights enter the three-game series with a season record of 13-14, while the Golden Hurricane are 13-9.
UCF is in its first season in C-USA after moving from the Atlantic Sun. The Golden Hurricane are also in their first campaign in the league. The squad comes to C-USA from the Western Athletic Conference.
Scouting UCF...Cici Alvarez leads UCF with a .354 batting average, 29 hits, 19 runs, 12 walks and eight sacrifice hits. Allison Kime is 9-5 in the circle for the Golden Knights with a 1.32 ERA. She has given up 36 runs on 73 hits with a C-USA leading 115 strikeouts in 106.0 innings of work.
Last Time Out...The Golden Knights went 1-3 at the Fresno State Bulldog Classic in California this past weekend. UCF defeated Ball State 4-1, before falling to San Diego 6-2, No. 21 DePaul 3-1 and No. 15 Washington 8-0. Allison Kime was named to the all-tournament team after posting a 1-1 record in the circle with a 1.00 ERA. She gave up eight runs on 20 hits with 24 strikeouts. Kime also paced the team at the plate, going 4-for-10.
Next Up for UCF...The Golden Knights travel to Huntington, W.Va. to take on Marshall Saturday and Sunday. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. both days.
Scouting Tulsa...The Golden Hurricane enter the series with a 13-9 record. Katie Torres leads the team in batting average (.365), runs (14), hits (23), home runs (6) and RBI (15). Maren Genow is 7-3 as a pitcher with an ERA of 2.55. Genow has given up 28 runs on 53 hits with 56 strikeouts.
Last Time Out...The Golden Hurricane went 2-3 at the Florida State Tournament in Tallahassee. Tulsa defeated Appalachian State and Troy, while falling to Indiana and North Carolina twice.
Series vs. Tulsa...The Golden Knights and the Golden Hurricane have never met on the softball diamond.
