IRVING, Texas - The UCF men's basketball team has earned the fifth seed at the 2006 Conference USA Men's Basketball Championship presented by Aeropostale. The Golden Knights (13-14, 7-7 C-USA) will face No. 12 East Carolina in the first round on Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. Eastern.
The C-USA Championship runs March 8-11 at the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tenn. East Carolina is 8-19 overall and concluded the regular season 2-12 in conference play.
UCF claimed both meetings in 2005-06 against the Pirates. The Golden Knights won 64-59 at East Carolina on Jan. 25. In Orlando on Feb. 22, the hosts claimed a 69-48 victory over East Carolina.
The Golden Knights will be participating in the C-USA Championship for the first time. Video of each first-round game will be available live online only.
Memphis is the No. 1 seed at the event. The Tigers, ranked No. 3 in the nation will have a first-round bye at the tournament. Other teams receiving first-round byes include No. 2 UAB, No. 3 UTEP and No. 4 Houston.
The East Carolina/UCF winner will face No. 4 Houston in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 9:30 p.m. Eastern. All quarterfinal contests will be aired nationally live on CSTV.
