ORLANDO - UCF earned a 5-1 win over UNF in women's tennis action at the UCF Tennis Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
The two squads agreed to begin with singles play due to the forecast of inclement weather. After senior captain Pamela Fernandez and sophomore Anna Yakimchenkova grabbed convincing wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, UNF earned its only point of the match at No. 4.
In her first competition back from injury, UCF freshman Elvira Serrot fought to a 7-5, 6-4 victory over the Ospreys' Vanessa Sanchez at No. 2 and junior Megan Hunter defeated freshman Lauren Cockbill, 6-0, 2-6, 6-4, for the decisive point.
After returning from an injury in the fall, sophomore Kyla McNicol battled UNF sophomore Robin Rogers to a 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5) at the No. 6 position.
Due to the impending rain, the doubles matches were not played.
"We're glad to have both Kyla and Elvira back in the lineup," said Golden Knights' head coach Patricia Allison. "The team played solid tennis today and it was a good win for us."
Next up, the Golden Knights travel to Tallahassee, where they take on No. 54 Florida State on Feb. 11 at 11 a.m. and Florida A&M on Feb. 12 at 10 a.m.
