TULSA, Okla. - Senior forward Emily Jaskowiak recorded a game-high 17 points and seven rebounds to give league leader Tulsa a 71-43 win over UCF in Conference USA women's basketball action at the Reynolds Center on Monday night.
The Golden Knights (5-17, 3-8) kept TU (17-4, 8-2) without a field goal in the opening minutes of the game. A three-pointer by senior guard Megan Moody at 17:41 sparked the Golden Hurricane offense and the home team jumped out to a 20-2 lead with just under 12 minutes to play in the period.
UCF's defense halted Tulsa's attack, holding the Golden Hurricane without a basket for five minutes, and scored six unanswered points. Still, TU took a 33-11 advantage into the intermission.
The Golden Knights owned a 17-16 favor on the glass, but Tulsa recorded 59.1% (13-for-22) accuracy from the field and held UCF to 19.2% (5-for-26) shooting.
In the second half, the Golden Hurricane opened with a 10-0 run before UCF senior Shelby Weber countered with two baskets. The Golden Knights cut Tulsa's lead to 55-29 at 9:21 after junior guard Francine Houston's got hot from behind the arc, where she made four shots in a five-minute span.
Despite UCF's best efforts, the TU continued to hang onto the lead and earned the win. The Golden Hurricane finished the game shooting 58.7% (27-for-46) from the field, while the Golden Knights hit 32.7% (16-for-49). Tulsa finished with a 33-26 advantage on the boards.
In addition to Jaskowiak, three other TU players scored in double figures, including Moody (13 points), junior forward Jillian Robbins (12) and senior guard Kara Pongois-Paslay (11).
Houston sank a team-high 19 points, including six three-pointers, all in the second half, while Weber contributed 10 points a team-high six boards.
The Golden Knights return home to host SMU on Friday at 7 p.m. as they begin a three-game homestand.
