ORLANDO - Continuing its stretch against in-state rivals, the UCF women's tennis team hosts North Florida at the UCF Tennis Complex on Tuesday at 2 p.m. The Golden Knights are facing a Florida school for the third consecutive match.
With a 1-2 record, UCF is hoping to rebound from two recent losses to No. 2 ranked Florida and No. 44 ranked USF. Junior Megan Hunter has emerged from the early schedule with a 2-1 dual record bringing her season total to 11-3 in singles competition. Most recently, she battled back to take a 1-6, 6-3 (10-6) victory over USF at the No. 5 spot.
The Golden Knights are still tweaking both the doubles and singles line-ups early in the season. Freshman Elvira Serrot, who opened the season as the team's No. 2 player, returns for Tuesday's match after missing the one against USF due to injury. At the time, sophomore Anna Yakimchenkova slid into the Serrot's position, while sophomore Jennifer Carati jumped to No. 3.
Meanwhile, North Florida evened its record at 2-2 with a 5-2 win over Georgia Southern on Jan. 4. Junior Catalina Castillo has been perfect thus far this season, going 4-0 in dual matches.
"We know that UNF is a solid team," said UCF head coach Patricia Allison. "Our athletes will have to step up and play good tennis in order to be successful."
