ORLANDO - Senior left fielder Colin Irvine recorded four hits, including a two-run home run and four RBI to lead Bethune-Cookman to a 14-2 victory over host UCF Tuesday evening at Jay Bergman Field. The Wildcats snapped a nine-game losing streak vs. the Golden Knights and won for the first time in the series since an 18-5 victory on April 22, 2003 in Orlando.
The win snapped a six-game losing streak for Bethune-Cookman (4-11) while UCF (4-6) saw its three-game winning streak come to an end.
The Wildcats scored two runs in the second before a five-run outburst in the third to take control of the game. Bethune-Cookman used the long ball in the third for most of its damage, including a pair of two-run home runs by Irvine and junior shortstop Chris Henault.
Senior right-hander Raphael Kyles (1-2) picked up the win on the mound for Bethune-Cookman. Kyles worked six innings and yielded just one run on four hits with six strikeouts.
Freshman southpaw Mitch Herold (0-1) was tagged with the loss for UCF. Herold allowed three runs on two hits in two innings of work with five strikeouts and six walks.
UCF returns to action Wednesday at Jay Bergman Field vs. Michigan. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. Freshman southpaw Mitch Houck is scheduled to make his first career start for the Golden Knights.
Game Notes: UCF's pitching staff issued a season-high 10 walks ... The Golden Knights tied a season-high with four errors ... Freshman Tyler Bunnell and sophomore Kyler Bender each recorded a career-high three strikeouts.
