Men's Tennis Too Much for Southern Miss

Feb. 26, 2006

ORLANDO - The UCF men's tennis team eased to a 6-0 victory over Southern Miss on Sunday afternoon at the UCF Tennis Complex to conclude play at the UCF/Conference USA Shootout. The Golden Knights (7-2), who have claimed four-consecutive matches, went a perfect 3-0 against league foes at the event.

The Golden Knights won all six singles tilts on Sunday. Due to Southern Miss' travel schedule, the teams did not play doubles matches. With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 1-6 on the year. Southern Miss completed an unfinished match with East Carolina on Sunday morning, winning 4-3.

"We had a great weekend," said UCF head coach Bobby Cashman. "Everyone is working very hard and the results are apparent on the court. Our guys are continuing to get better and I am very pleased with that."

Freshman Brock Sakey clinched the win for UCF, posting a 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 victory over Andrew Poole at No. 4. At the top spot, sophomore Sinan Sudas defeated Marc Lux (6-2, 6-3). Freshman Tarek Ben Soltane breezed past Tommy Maestri at No. 6, taking a 6-2, 6-1 win.

Sophomore Alamgir Wali was a 7-5, 7-6 winner against Domagoj Anic at No. 2. Against Dylan Mezey at No. 3, junior Sebastian Delgado rallied for a 4-6, 6-3 (12-10) win. At No. 5, freshman Norman Alcantara held on to top John Koti, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
