UCF Blazes Past UAB

ORLANDO - The UCF men's tennis team claimed its third-consecutive match on Saturday morning, recording a 5-2 win over Conference USA foe UAB at the UCF Tennis Complex. The Golden Knights improve to 6-2 on the season.

The contest was the second of three for the Golden Knights at the "UCF/Conference USA Shootout."

UCF won all three doubles matches against the Blazers (3-2). At No. 2, junior Sebastian Delgado and sophomore Alamgir Wali posted a 9-7 win over Andre Maier and Sebastian Falk, the 40th-ranked doubles tandem in the nation.

"We really had some good doubles play today," said UCF head coach Bobby Cashman. "This is a big win against a very good conference opponent. I was pleased with our effort and intensity against UAB."

On the singles side, UCF took four victories. At the top spot, sophomore Sinan Sudas topped Kristijan Mitrovski, 6-2, 7-5. Freshman Jimmy Roesch was a quick 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 6 over Kruno Despotovski.

Fellow freshman Brock Sakey defeated Johannes Sprangenberg at No. 5, 6-0, 6-3. Against Maier at No. 4, freshman Norman Alcantara was a 7-5, 6-3 winner.

UCF concludes the C-USA event on Sunday, hosting Southern Miss at 1:30 p.m.
