Men's Tennis Tops Cross-Town Rival

WINTER PARK - The UCF men's tennis team posted a 5-4 victory over cross-town rival Rollins on Thursday afternoon at the Bert W. Martin Tennis Complex. Freshman Norman Alcantara clinched the win at No. 2 with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 victory over David Tafur.

The Tars, who are ranked No. 8 in Division II, open their season with a loss.

In addition to Alcantara's victory, UCF posted two other singles wins. At No. 5, freshman Brock Sakey recorded a 6-3, 6-3 win over Brian Compton. Junior Sebastian Delgado was victorious at No. 4, holding on for a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 win over Jonathan Gomez.

"Our guys really battled against a very good team," said UCF head coach Bobby Cashman. "Sebastian and Norman were really tough and held off some very good players to help us win."

The Golden Knights opened the contest by claiming two of three doubles matches. Sakey joined freshman Jimmy Roesch for an 8-4 victory against Mike Compton and Michael Schwartz at No. 3. Delgado and sophomore Alamgir Wali won an 8-5 match at No. 2 over Gomez and Adrian Tan.

UCF makes its home debut on Saturday, hosting UT-San Antonio. First serve at the UCF Tennis Complex is set for noon.
