BOCA RATON - The UCF men's tennis team earned a 6-1 victory over host Florida Atlantic on Sunday at Patch Reef Park. With the win, the Golden Knights improve to 4-2 on the season.
UCF won all three doubles matches and took five of six singles matches. The Owls fall to 2-6 on the year.
In singles play, freshman Brock Sakey wasted little time against Gianfranco Dossena at No. 5, posting a 6-0, 6-1 win. At No. 3, junior Sebastian Delgado defeated J.P. Bounassar, 6-4, 6-3.
Freshmen Norman Alcantara and Jimmy Roesch were victorious against the Owls. Alcantara topped Mauricio Paiz, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 3. Roesch defeated Akin Akman (6-3, 6-4) at No. 6. At the top spot, sophomore Sinan Sudas rallied to defeat Kevin Obletz, 4-6, 6-2 (12-10).
"Our guys played very hard today and gave a good effort," said UCF head coach Bobby Cashman. "The freshman and the older guys are doing a real good job out there."
Alcantara joined Sudas at No. 1 doubles and the pair got past Obletz and David Demers, 8-4.
UCF returns to action on Thursday, hosting Conference USA foe Memphis at 2 p.m.
