No. 25 Florida International Defeats UCF in Women'

MIAMI - No. 25 Florida International halted UCF's winning streak at two when it defeated the Golden Knights, 6-1, in women's tennis action Friday afternoon.

The Golden Panthers (3-1) started the match with an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles before clinching the point when junior Shilla D'Armas and sophomore Marijana Cutuk dropped the UCF freshman duo of Kenza Belbacha and Elvira Serrot, 8-6, at the No. 3 position.

D'Armas and Serrot met again at No. 2 singles where D'Armas battled back to take the victory, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2. FIU also won at the top of the lineup as junior Paula Zabala beat UCF senior captain Pamela Fernandez, 6-4, 6-1.

While sophomore Anna Yakimchenkova saw her two-match winning streak snapped by junior Nikkita Fountain, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 3 singles, junior Megan Hunter grabbed her fourth consecutive victory. She defeated senior Bruna Discordia, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 6 position.

The Golden Knights (3-3) remain in South Florida on Saturday as they visit No. 13 Miami for a 1 p.m. match.
