Softball Hosts Bethune-Cookman

ORLANDO - The UCF softball team takes on Bethune-Cookman Wednesday afternoon at Merrill Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla. The first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. The Golden Knights are 2-2 after playing in the Triple Crown Tournament over the weekend, while the Wildcats are 2-3 after participating in the FAU Worth Invitational.

Scouting UCF...Junior Amber Lamb paces the Golden Knights after going 6-for-12 at the plate over the weekend at the Triple Crown Tournament. She scored one run with one RBI and two walks. Lamb also recorded three putouts with six assists at shortstop. Sophomore Allison Kime went 1-1 in the circle for UCF after pitching 14.0 innings and giving up six runs on 14 hits and 10 strikeouts.

Last Time Out...The Golden Knights took two games from Texas Tech, while dropping a pair of games to Southern Illinois at the Triple Crown Tournament in St. Augustine, Fla. Southern Illinois defeated UCF, 5-2, before the Golden Knights knocked off Texas Tech, 4-2, on an Ashley Van Ryn grand slam Friday afternoon. Saturday morning, the Golden Knights defeated the Red Raiders, 4-1, before the Salukis handed UCF a 7-0 loss.

Scouting Bethune-Cookman...Breanna Shaw went 5-for-13 with one run, one double and one walk for the Wildcats at the FAU Worth Invitational over the weekend. Shaw also recorded 11 putouts and 11 assists at shortstop. After pitching 21.0 innings over the weekend, Vivaca Patterson owns a 3.33 ERA and a 1-2 season mark. Patterson gave up 12 runs on 21 hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Last Time Out...The Wildcats went 2-3 at the FAU Worth Invitational over the weekend in Boca Raton, Fla. BCC defeated Pittsburgh, 4-3, to close out the tournament Sunday afternoon. Breanna Shaw, Christina Trimble and Megan McGuire were all 2-for-3 at the plate for the game. Vivaca Patterson picked the win in the circle for the Wildcats, going the distance and giving up seven hits.

Series vs. Bethune-Cookman...The Golden Knights lead the all-time series versus the Wildcats, 7-2. The two teams last met on Jan. 29, 2005 in a doubleheader series at Bethune-Cookman. UCF took game one, 3-2, while BCC won the nightcap, 5-3. Stephanie Best paced the Golden Knights going 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, a run, three RBI and two walks.

Opening Day Hero...Sophomore second baseman Ashley Van Ryn ripped her first career grand slam as UCF defeated Texas Tech, 4-2, Friday afternoon. Amber Lamb, Shelly Frick and Lindsay Dean all drew walks to load the bases for Van Ryn. With two outs, Van Ryn sent the ball screaming over the left field fence.

Freshman Power...In freshman Breanne Javier's first career at-bat, the first baseman knocked a two-run double down the right field line against Southern Illinois scoring Cici Alvarez and Kacie Feaster.
