GAINESVILLE - Second-ranked Florida posted a 7-0 victory at home over the UCF men's tennis team on Thursday afternoon at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex. The Golden Knights fell to 1-1 on the year while Florida (1-0) opened its season with a win.
The Gators claimed all three doubles tilts to begin the match and then took all six singles contests. UCF received a strong showing from a pair of freshmen at the No. 3 doubles spot as Tarek Ben Soltane and Brock Sakey battled Chris Brandi and Ryan Sherry before falling, 8-5.
"Our guys really battled against a very good team," said UCF head coach Bobby Cashman. "Hopefully, playing against a team of this caliber will help our team get better."
Sophomore Alamgir Wali played a competitive match at No. 3 singles. He lost the first game to Nestor Briceno, 7-6 (5), and then fell 6-0 in the second game.
The Golden Knights return to action on Feb. 2, facing local rival Rollins in Winter Park at 2:30 p.m.
