UCF Faces Tough Test at Florida

Jan. 25, 2006

GAINESVILLE - The UCF men's tennis team will face its first test of the young season on Thursday when it travels north to face second-ranked Florida. First serve at the Ring Tennis Complex is scheduled for 3 p.m.

The Golden Knights are 1-0 on the year after topping Bethune-Cookman, 6-1, in Daytona Beach on Saturday. Florida will be making its season debut on Wednesday.

UCF received solid contributions from two of its four freshmen against Bethune-Cookman. Brock Sakey was victorious at No. 5 singles and fellow rookie Jimmy Roesch earned a win at No. 6.

Sophomore Sinan Sudas anchored the Golden Knight lineup against the Wildcats, recording a 6-3, 6-1 win over Thabani Sithole at No. 1.

The Gators return eight letterwinners from last season's 24-6 squad that advanced to the NCAA Championship semifinals. Currently, a pair of Florida players are nationally ranked in singles action. Stefan Tell is ranked 70th and Vladimir Obradovic is No. 90.

Florida leads the all-time series, 9-0. Last year, the teams met twice in Gainesville. The Gators posted a 7-0 victory on Jan. 24 and then earned a 4-0 win in the first round of the NCAA Championship.
