No. 2 Florida Defeats UCF in Women's Tennis

ORLANDO - The No. 2 Florida women's tennis team beat UCF, 7-0, in Gainesville on Wednesday as the Golden Knights hit the road for the first time this season.

The Gators (1-0) opened the evening by taking the first two doubles matches. Although the point was already decided, the UCF duo of junior Megan Hunter and sophomore Kyla McNicol fought UF's tandem of Lolita Frangulyan and Diana Srebrovic before losing 8-5.

The Golden Knights dropped the first two singles matches at No. 4 and No. 1 in less than an hour and Florida solidified the win when No. 63 Nina Suvak defeated UCF sophomore Anna Yakimchenkova, 6-2, 6-0, at the No. 3 position.

UCF's best chance to avoid the sweep came at No 6. Hunter battled Frangulyan to 6-6 in the first set before losing the tiebreaker then lost the deciding set 6-3.

The Golden Knights return home to take on No. 45 USF on Feb. 1 at 2 p.m.
