ORLANDO - The UCF women's tennis team makes its 2006 season debut on Saturday when it hosts Georgia Southern. The first match is set to begin at 11 a.m.
The Golden Knights, which begin their first year in Conference USA, return six of eight players from a squad that went 11-8 last season before advancing to the semi-finals of the Atlantic Sun Tournament. Among the most experienced of the veteran players is senior captain Pamela Fernandez. With 50 victories in 70 matches, she moves into the No. 1 spot. She gained valuable experience there last year against top teams like USF and Miami.
UCF's two freshmen have also cracked the lineup after their impressive efforts in practice. Expected to play at No. 2 is Elvira Serrot, while classmate Kenza Belbacha slides into the No. 4 spot.
Georgia Southern, meanwhile, has four freshmen on the roster. The Eagles finished 10-13 overall and 5-5 in the Southern Conference during 2005.
