Women's Track Opens Indoor Season With Solid Effort at UF Invitational

GAINESVILLE - Paced by the efforts of seniors Tiffany Roebuck and Diana Chin and freshman Jamie Rzepecki, the UCF women's track and field posted a solid 2006 debut effort at the Florida Intercollegiate Invitational on Sunday.

Roebuck opened the day with a ninth place showing in the weight throw with a mark of 49-feet, 1.75 inches (13.95m) then took third in the shot put at 44-6.75 (13.57m).

Chin, meanwhile, leaped to a mark of 18-10.75 (5.76m) to earn fifth place in the long jump.

On the track, Rzepecki ran to a third place showing in the 3,000-meter event at 10:47.79, while fellow rookie Shantile Blackeburn was eighth in the 800m at 2:20.01.

The Golden Knights capped off the afternoon by finishing third in the 4x400m relay, which featured sophomore Jenny Rogan and Victoria Chin, senior Tavia Record and freshman Olinka Crusoe.They recorded a time of 3:54.95.

"It was a solid opening effort," said UCF head coach Marcia Mansur-Wentworth. "I am encouraged by the performances and look forward to seeing how the team progresses."

UCF competes next on Jan. 27 and 28 at the UNC Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
