ORLANDO - The UCF rowing team has been invited to participate in the 20th Annual Windermere Cup Opening Day Regatta on May 6 hosted by the University of Washington in Seattle. In addition to UCF and Washington, the Russian Under-23 National Team will also participate.
"This is an incredible opportunity for us to race at one of the most prestigious regattas against one of the fastest programs in the country," said head coach Leeanne Crain.
The Windermere Cup races are the featured event in the 17-race Opening Day Regatta, which attracts upwards of 6,000 spectators on both yachts that line the racecourse and along the shoreline. The event is co-hosted by the Seattle Yacht Club to celebrate the opening day of yachting season in the Pacific Northwest and is one of the city's premier events annually.
Windermere Real Estate sponsors the event and offers transportation and accommodations for visiting teams along with sightseeing trips, souvenirs and opportunities to give back to the local community.
On May 13, UCF's lightweights will participate in the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships in Sacramento, Calif. instead of the Dad Vail. Other participants include Stanford, California and San Diego State.
