Dec. 16, 2005

ORLANDO - The UCF football team continued its strong trend of academic success under head coach George O'Leary with another good showing in the classroom for the fall semester. The Golden Knights had 51 student-athletes with a 3.000 GPA or higher (45 percent of the team), including 36 scholarship student-athletes (46 percent of all scholarship players).

"I am very proud of the fact with the success on the athletic field, the players continued to do well academically with nearly half of the team on the honor roll," said UCF head coach George O'Leary.

UCF's team grade point average stands at 2.808, including a team term grade point average of 2.699. UCF's incoming group of scholarship freshmen posted an impressive grade point average of 3.151.

"I continue to be pleased by the football team's commitment to academic success," stated athletic academic advisor Kristy Belden. "They continue to work hard and excel academically semester after semester."

Senior defensive back Mike Malatesta posted a perfect 4.000 grade point average.

The Golden Knights (8-4) face Nevada in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl Dec. 24. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
