Dec. 9, 2005

ORLANDO - UCF head baseball coach Jay Bergman announced the Golden Knights' 2006 schedule Friday. The 56-game schedule features 18 games vs. eight teams that participated in the 2005 NCAA Baseball Championship, including a home date with in-state rival Florida at Jay Bergman Field.

"With our move to Conference USA, we will face a tremendous schedule in 2006," stated Bergman. "This schedule gives our fans a great chance to watch some of the top teams in the nation at home, which is always exciting."

Bergman will begin his 24th season at the helm Saturday, Feb. 4 at Florida International. The two-game series with the Golden Panthers marks the sixth straight season UCF has opened vs. FIU.

The North Florida series begins an 11-game homestand with games against Stony Brook, Monmouth and Big Ten power Michigan.

UCF and Stetson renew their rivalry with a pair of games in 2006. The Golden Knights visit DeLand March 7 while the Hatters come to Jay Bergman Field March 28.

UCF opens C-USA play March 31-April 2 at Marshall in Charleston, W.Va. The three-game series will take place at Appalachian Power Park, home of the West Virginia Power (single-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers).

One of the top teams in C-USA opens UCF's home schedule in league play on April 7 when East Carolina visits for a three-game set.
