UCF Drops Five-Game Match to North Florida

ORLANDO - Sophomore outside hitter Schanell Neiderworder recorded a double-double with 20 kills and 11 digs, but it was not enough as the UCF volleyball team dropped a hard-fought 3-2 (25-30, 33-31, 30-21, 26-30, 15-12) match to visiting North Florida at UCF Arena on Tuesday evening. Neiderworder also posted six digs, six total blocks and four service aces for the Golden Knights (7-16).

In game five, Emily Kohler posted three kills as the Ospreys (17-9) pulled away at the end to claim the match. North Florida hit .248 as a team for the contest, compared to .198 for the hosts.

Neiderworder started the match in strong fashion, registering all four of her service aces as UCF jumped out to a 7-0 lead in game one. For the match, the Golden Knights totaled 15 service aces, which ties for ninth on the school's single-match register.

Junior middle blocker Jana Mitchell had 16 kills and three blocks in the loss. Freshman middle blocker Jenny Heppert finished with 10 kills and eight total blocks to match a career high. She added four service aces and hit .333 for the match.

After missing UCF's last match due to an injury, junior outside hitter Maina Heming tallied 13 kills and seven digs and junior setter Leah Alexander posted 59 assists. Sophomore libero Alesha Busch had a career-high with 14 digs and also chipped in with two aces.

Kohler had a .514 hitting percentage for the contest and finished with a match-high 22 kills to go with 14 digs. Amy Stroder recorded 13 kills for North Florida. Heather Kendrick totaled 52 assists and Jenna Thomas posted 24 digs in the victory.

The Golden Knights return to league play on Friday, facing host Southern Miss for a Conference USA match. First serve in Hattiesburg, Miss. is scheduled for 7 p.m.
