ORLANDO - The UCF volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (30-17, 30-26, 30-21) Conference USA contest to visiting Marshall on Sunday afternoon at UCF Arena. Senior middle blocker Chaz Arah totaled nine kills, four total blocks and two service aces for the Golden Knights (7-15, 5-10 C-USA).
The Thundering Herd (21-5, 13-1) hit .371 for the match. On its way to a 30-17 game one victory, Marshall hit .500 as a team, compared to .065 for the hosts.
Junior middle blocker Jana Mitchell finished with nine kills and four total blocks in the losing effort. In addition to four service aces, sophomore outside hitter Schanell Neiderworder tallied six kills and five digs.
Kelly-Anne Billingy, who ranks fourth nationally in kills per game, recorded 17 kills for the Thundering Herd. With the victory, Marshall clinched the conference regular season title.
"Marshall is a very good team and they are consistent," said UCF head coach Meg Colado. "They are a solid team and they showed that today."
Junior setter Leah Alexander had 13 assists for the Golden Knights and sophomore setter Kim Clonan chipped in with 11 assists.
Prior to the match, UCF recognized its two seniors, Arah and libero Katie Kohnen, who were both playing in their final home conference match.
Nickie Sanlin and Stephanie Cahill both finished with 10 kills for Marshall. Katie Stein totaled a match-high 45 assists.
UCF returns to the court on Tuesday, hosting North Florida for a non-league contest. First serve at UCF Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m.
