ORLANDO - Redshirt sophomore Rafael Teixeira netted a pair of goals and added an assist to lead UCF to a 5-0 shutout of East Carolina in Conference USA men's soccer action at the UCF Soccer Complex on Friday night.

With the win, the Golden Knights halted a five-game slide and improved to 7-7-1 overall and 2-5-1 in C-USA, while the Pirates dropped to 0-14-1, 0-8-0 in C-USA.

Freshman defender Jake Howard put UCF on the board in the 29th minute when he took a shot from 25 yards out that skipped under ECU goalkeeper Zachery Roszel (seven saves). The Golden Knights would take the 1-0 lead into the intermission after dominating the first half with an 8-2 advantage in shots.

The hosts kept the Pirates without a shot on goal until the 48th minutes when UCF senior keeper Ryan McIntosh denied an attempt by forward Shawn Harris.

Teixeira scored the first of his two goals on a bullet from 30 yards out in the 54th minute then added the second nearly identical tally seven minutes later from the same angle with an assist to sophomore Adham Rashwan.

Teixeira returned the favor feeding the serve off a corner kick to Rashwan for a score in the 62nd minute.

UCF's final tally was an own goal off a misdirected ECU header in the 69th minute.

McIntosh made four saves to record his third shutout of the year and the 21st of his career, which moves him into a tie with Rick Brantincevic for second all-time on UCF's career shutouts list.

UCF finished with a 22-7 margin in shots and an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.

"We played a good game tonight, especially in the second half," said UCF first-year head coach Brent Erwin. "We finally had some breaks come our way and we were able to score some goals. Now we have to focus on the big task ahead and prepare for Sunday."

The Golden Knights need a win against South Carolina in their regular season finale on Sunday at 1 p.m. to advance to the C-USA Tournament, which takes place in Dallas, Texas from Nov. 9-13.
