ORLANDO - Sophomore outside hitter Schanell Neiderworder had a double-double with a match-high 17 kills and 17 digs, but it was not enough as the UCF volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (30-26, 30-28, 30-28) Conference USA contest to East Carolina on Friday evening. The loss snaps a three-match winning streak for the Golden Knights (7-14, 5-9 C-USA).

UCF led 20-9 in game two, but was then hampered by a pair of injuries. The Pirates (15-10, 6-6) took advantage, closing the game on a 21-8 run.

Junior setter Leah Alexander recorded 43 assists in the losing effort. Neiderworder has tallied double-doubles in two consecutive matches and has five on the season.

UCF hit .223 for the match, including a .319 performance in game three.

"We did some good things tonight," said UCF head coach Meg Colado. "We had a bit of bad luck and couldn't recover."

Junior middle blocker Jana Mitchell totaled 11 kills and four total blocks for UCF. Junior outside hitter Maina Heming finished with 10 kills.

Four East Carolina players ended the match with double figures in kills. Mignon Dubenion tallied 13 kills. Pam Ferris had a double-double with 11 kills and 16 digs. Kim Jefferson also posted 11 kills and Kelley Wernert chipped in with 10 kills. Heidi Krug recorded 43 assists.

The Golden Knights return to action on Sunday, hosting Marshall at 1 p.m. Prior to the match, UCF will honor seniors Chaz Arah and Katie Kohnen, who will both be playing in their last home conference contest.
