Baines Earns CoSIDA Academic All-America Award

ORLANDO, Fla. - UCF senior defender Courtney Baines was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District III First Team as announced by the organization.

In order to be considered for the award, nominees must maintain a grade-point-average of 3.20 on a 4.00 scale, be at least a sophomore and spent at least one full academic year at the institution.

Baines, a senior defender for the women's soccer team, was named Conference USA's Defensive Player of the Year earlier this week. She has started all 21 matches for the Golden Knights this season with five assists on 15 shots for a total of five points.

Throughout her career, Baines has played in 89 matches with 83 starts, while scoring 11 goals and 29 assists on 110 shots for 51 points.

Baines, an exceptional education major, was a three-time Atlantic Sun All-Academic team member. She was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas College Women Scholar All-South Region First Team and CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team in 2004.

Baines and the Golden Knights return to the field Friday evening where the team takes on UTEP in the semifinal round of the 2005 Conference USA Women's Soccer Championship in Houston. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. eastern.
