Baines named Academic All-America

Nov. 30, 2005

ORLANDO - Courtney Baines, a senior defender on the UCF women's soccer team, was named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America First Team as announced by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Baines is the first women's soccer athlete at UCF to pick up first team honors.

To earn All-America recognition, a student-athlete must maintain a 3.2 grade-point-average on a 4.0 scale.

Earlier this year, Baines was named Conference USA's Defensive Player of the Year, while also picking up first team all-conference honors. She started all 22 matches for the Golden Knights in 2005, recording five assists.

An exceptional education major, Baines was a three-time Atlantic Sun All-Academic team selection. She was also named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas College Women Scholar All-South Region First Team and CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team in 2004.
