ORLANDO - UCF women's golf coach Emilee Klein announced Tuesday the signing of Sara Hurwitch of Potomac Falls, Va., to a National Letter of Intent. Hurwitch signed with UCF during the early signing period that recently ended. She is the first signee for Klein who took over the women's golf program just a month ago.
"Sara is a highly accomplished player who is going to be a tremendous asset to the women's golf program at UCF," Klein said. "She has an outstanding short game and should help us immediately in our efforts to elevate this program."
Hurwitch is a senior at Dominion High School in Sterling, Va., where she was co-captain of the boys golf team. She was twice named MVP of the Dominion squad and was named the Dulles District Golfer of the Year by the Washington Post in 2004. She was also named the Junior Female Player of the Year by the Virginia State Golf Association in 2003.
She won the 2004 Virginia High School League Girl's State Open Championship and has advanced to the sectional qualifying for the U.S. Women's Open twice. She also qualified for the USGA Girl's Junior Championship twice and advanced to the match play round in 2003. She has posted rounds of 4-under-par 68 in competition twice.
"Sara is very motivated and I believe she has the potential to have a great college career," Klein added. "I'm looking forward to her joining our program."
Hurwitch will enroll at UCF and begin competing in the fall of 2006.
