Novice Rowing Wins Novice A and Novice B at FIRA Fall Race

FELLSMERE, Fla. - The UCF novice rowing squad won both the Novice A and Novice B races at the FIRA Fall Race in Fellsmere, Fla. Saturday. "I am very proud of how the team did in its first regatta," coach Becky Frost said. "All four of the boats had strong showings considering most of the women had never raced before."

The first novice eight boat completed their race in a time of 14:59 with Miami second at 15:44, while Rollins was third followed by Florida, Barry and Nova Southeastern.

Boat "A" consisted of coxswain Ashley Nevader, Jessica Veeneman, Tara Rogers, Blaire Benefield, Christina Smith, Maggie Keller, Jennifer Miller, Erin Bernier and Kaitlin O'Connell.

In the Women's Novice "B" Eight race, the UCF lightweight squad finished first at 16:57 followed by UCF "B" at 17:09, Florida at 18:33 and UCF "C" 18:40.

In the lightweight boat, Christen Anderson was coxswain with Lauren Schueler, Kamilah Hadley, Colleen Devlin, Kelly Jensen, Shana Plante, Raquel Rojas, Kristine Young and Taylor Wiatt also in the boat.

The Golden Knights return to the water in March for the spring season.
