Imran Earns CoSIDA Academic All-District Award

Nov. 3, 2005

ORLANDO - UCF men's soccer standout Jon Imran was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District III Second Team, the organization announced on Thursday.

In 2005, Imran is tied for the team lead in goals (3) while he is tied for third in total points (6). He scored two goals in less than 10 minutes to lead UCF in its 4-4 comeback tie with Marshall and knocked in the game-deciding goal vs. Central Connecticut.

A senior forward, Imran transferred to UCF from Stetson prior to the 2003 season. Since then, he has played in 111 matches with 18 goals and two assists for 38 points. Of his 18 goals, six have been game-winners, including two against the Hatters.

"We are proud of all that Jon has achieved both on the field and in the classroom during his time at UCF," said UCF first-year head coach Brent Erwin. "He continues to be a prime example of the well-rounded student-athlete."

Last season, Imran led the team in points with 17 and recorded 64 shots, an effort that ranks seventh all-time at UCF for most shots in a season. He also netted a hat trick against Lipscomb, the first by a Golden Knight since 2001.

His performance on the field did not go unnoticed as he was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Tournament Team in both 2003 and 2004 after helping the Golden Knights earn two of their three consecutive championships.

Off the field, Imran, a molecular and microbiology major, received Atlantic Sun All-Academic Team recognition for three consecutive seasons.

To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, nominees must carry a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 on a 4.00 scale and be at least a sophomore with one full academic year at the institution.

The Golden Knights (6-7-1, 1-5-1 Conference USA) host East Carolina on Friday at 7 p.m. before facing South Carolina in the regular season finale on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both matches will be played at the UCF Soccer Complex.
