LAKE BUENA VISTA - Freshman Chris Mullaney grabbed top honors as the UCF men's cross country team took third and the women's squad earned fourth at the 10th Annual Disney Classic at Disney's Wide World of Sports on Saturday morning.
Mullaney continued his impressive rookie campaign by winning the men's race. He bested the more experienced Tyrone Bell of Florida Southern by eight seconds with a time of 25:39.96.
"I couldn't be prouder out what Chris accomplished today," said UCF head coach Marcia Mansur-Wentworth. "He has worked very hard in practices and it is nice to see him get rewarded for that."
Junior Brent White finished 15th at 26:22.06, while brother Ryan White was 23rd at 26:40.43. Senior Chucky Jones placed 28th at 26:44.60, while freshman Daniel Conn rounded out UCF's scoring lineup in 33rd with a time of 26:53.04.
"We still have some athletes running out of position, but I was pleased with how well the men ran," said Mansur-Wentworth.
Florida claimed the men's title with 34 points followed by Florida Southern (84 pts.). The Golden Knights finished third (92) in the field of 30 teams.
On the women's side, sophomore Allison Palmer paced UCF with a 24th place showing at 19:20.29, while freshman Shantile Blackburn recorded at time of 19:33.12 to finish 33rd.
Senior Andrea Morrow was the Knights' No. 3 runner, finishing 44th at 19:44.33. Freshman Kelly McNeill took 50th at 19:51.17 and sophomore captain Karen Kozub also contributed to the team score in 56th place at 19:58.60.
Florida also captured top honors in the women's race with 39 points. Florida Atlantic (150 pts.) was second just two points ahead of third place Tampa. UCF was fourth with 180 points.
"The women had some strong individual efforts. Both Allison and Shantile ran very well," said Mansur-Wentworth.
Next up for the Golden Knights is the Stetson Invitational on Oct. 14 at 4:30 p.m.
