Women's Soccer to Take on Tulane and UTEP

ORLANDO, Fla.-The UCF women's soccer team (4-6, 1-0 C-USA) will travel to College Station, Texas to take on Tulane (0-5, 0-2 C-USA) Friday, Oct. 7 at 4:30 p.m. The Golden Knights will then visit El Paso, Texas where the team will play UTEP (12-0-1, 1-0-1 C-USA) Sunday, Oct. 9 at 3 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT FOR UCF
The Golden Knights were defeated by Florida Atlantic Sunday, Oct. 2, 1-0 in Boca Raton, Fla. The Owls scored their lone goal at the 55:58 mark when Susanna Lehtinen passed to Katri Nokso-Koivisto who sent the ball past keeper. UCF was led by Jennifer Montgomery who had three shots on the afternoon, while Roberta Pelarigo paced the Golden Knights with two shots on goal.

TEAM LEADERS FOR UCF
Roberta Pelarigo leads the team in points with 11 (5 goals, 1 assist), while Jessica Newport is second with five (2 goals, 1 assist). Pelarigo also paces the offense with 42 shots. Beth Harless has started six contests in goal for the Golden Knights, while Jennifer Manis has made five starts of her own. Harless has allowed seven goals with 22 saves, one shutout and a 1.21 goals-against-average, while Manis has allowed eight goals with 10 saves and a 1.50 GAA.

UP NEXT FOR UCF
The Golden Knights return home on Friday, Oct. 14 when the squad hosts East Carolina at the UCF Soccer Complex at 7 p.m. On Sunday, Oct. 16, the team welcomes Marshall to Orlando with kickoff slated for 1 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT FOR TULANE
Tulane was defeated by UAB, 3-2, Sunday, Oct. 2 in Birmingham, Ala. Jackie Obert and Jill Sharp scored the Green Waves' goals, while Leah Peterson, Lauren Peek and Megan Weinlein picked up the assists. Both goals were scored in the first half of action.

TEAM LEADERS FOR TULANE
Leading the way for Tulane are Jessica Mendez and Kali Miller who both have three points (1 goal, 1 assist). Jill Sharp paces the Green Waves in shots with 18, while Jackie Obert is second with 11. Megan Morey has played four matches in the net for Tulane with 15 goals allowed, 28 saves and a 3.75 GAA

SERIES NOTE
This will be the second meeting between UCF and Tulane on the turf. The Golden Knights lead the series 1-0 after the squad defeated the Green Waves, 5-1, in 2004. All five of UCF's goals were scored by different players, while Becca Eshelman recorded five points (1 goal, 3 assists) in the match. The shutout was spoiled by an own goal at the 51:00 mark.

LAST TIME OUT FOR UTEP
UTEP defeated Memphis, 3-2, in Tennessee Sunday, Oct. 2. The Miners opened the game with a goal at the 10:11 mark by Brandi Aston. Memphis responded with a goal of their own five minutes later. In the second half, UTEP scored their other two goals less than 20 minutes in. Brittany Popoff recorded eight saves for the Miners, while the two teams were tied in shots with 20 apiece.

TEAM LEADERS FOR UTEP
Leading the way for UTEP is Melissa Abraham who has 24 points (11 goals, 2 assists) with 60 shots. Second on the team in points is Jami Tullius with 21 (10 goals, 1 assist), while Brandi Aston is second in shots with 49. Brittany Popoff has started in all 13 matches in the net for the Miners, allowing 11 goals with 53 saves for a 0.91 GAA.

SERIES NOTE
This will be the second meeting between UCF and UTEP on the turf. The Miners lead the series 1-0 after the squad defeated the Golden Knights, 4-1, in 1998.

AMONG THE BEST IN C-USA
Forward Roberta Pelarigo and goalkeepers Beth Harless and Jennifer Manis are all ranked among the best in Conference USA. Pelarigo is sixth in shots (42) and shots per game (3.82), while Harless and Manis are sixth and seventh in GAA, respectively.

1-3 VS. TEAMS FROM THE STATE OF FLORIDA
The 2005 women's soccer team is currently 1-3 versus teams from the state of Florida. The Golden Knights lone victory came against Florida International while the losses were to Florida State, Florida and Florida Atlantic. In 2004, UCF was 9-0 against teams from the state of Florida with wins over Florida International, Miami, Stetson, Jacksonville (twice), USF, Florida Atlantic, Florida State and Florida. The Golden Knights defeated then No. 12 Florida State in Tallahassee, 3-2, and No. 10 Florida in Gainesville, 3-2, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

BACKED INTO A CORNER
UCF has taken 45 corner kicks to opponents' 37 thus far in the 2005 season. The team had a season-high 10 corners against Southern Miss and a season-low zero against UW-Milwaukee, while giving up eight to Pepperdine and holding UC Santa Barbara to one.

THIS TIME LAST SEASON
This time last year, the Golden Knights were 8-2-1 with wins over Florida International, Minnesota, USF, Tulane, Air Force, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb and Lipscomb. The team's two blemishes came against Dayton and Campbell, while the draw was with UAB. UCF had outscored its opponents, 34-5, in the first 11 matches of the 2004 season.

SETTING RECORDS
Jennifer Montgomery has already left her mark in the UCF career record books after just three years in the program. She ranks in the top 10 for shots (163), goals (35), total points (91) and game-winning goals (7), while Courtney Baines is ranked eighth for career assists (26). Both Julie Snaman and Beth Harless are listed in the record books. Snaman is sixth in saves (111), third in goals against average (0.73) and seventh in shutouts (17.0), while Harless is fourth in goals against average (0.89). Montgomery is also ranked in several categories for season records. She leads the way for total points (46), is second for goals (17), fourth for assists (12) and eighth for game-winning goals (4).
