Oct. 4, 2005

DALLAS, Texas - UCF cross country standout Chris Mullaney was tapped as the Conference USA Male Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. It was the first award for the Golden Knights this season.

The Knights' No. 1 runner in all three meets this fall, Mullaney set a new school record in the 8K when he finished with a time of 25:15 at the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational on Oct. 1 in Chicago. The effort placed him 22nd in a field of 270 athletes.

Mullaney has run strong since opening the season with a time of 25:36.05 at the Gator Invitational. He has finished in the top 25 in all three events he entered.

"Chris has continued to work hard this fall and truly deserves the recognition," said UCF head coach Marcia Mansur-Wentworth.

Mullaney and the rest of the Golden Knights return to action at the Disney Classic on Oct. 8 at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista.
