Oct. 31, 2005

DALLAS, Texas - Junior wide receiver Mike Walker and freshmen free safety Augustus Ashley were named Conference USA's Offensive and Defensive players of the week, as announced by the league office Monday. It marked the first time in school history UCF had two players garner league honors in the same week.

Walker came up with two crucial fourth quarter touchdowns to lead UCF to a 30-20 victory at East Carolina. The Golden Knights won their first game on the road in Conference USA and moved a half game in front of Southern Miss atop the East Division standings.

With UCF trailing 20-17, Walker hauled in a 38-yard touchdown pass from Steven Moffett in the back of the end zone to give the Golden Knights the lead for good at 24-20.

After an ECU turnover, Walker caught a 31-yard touchdown pass from Moffett to ice the game at 30-20 with four minutes remaining.

Walker finished the game with seven receptions for 110 yards and two touchdowns. He leads UCF on the season in receptions (53), yards (703) and touchdown receptions (7).

Ashley shared the defensive player of the week honor with Marshall's Dennis Thornton. Ashley tied for the team lead with nine tackles in his first career start. The Jacksonville native recorded his first career interception on ECU's opening drive of the game as UCF's defense forced six Pirate turnovers.

UCF plays its final home game of the season Saturday vs. Houston on Homecoming. Kickoff is set for 6:15 p.m. and the i network will televise the game live nationally as part of CSTV's Football Nation.
