Montgomery and Hopkins Named C-USA Women's Soccer Players of the Week

Oct. 31, 2005

IRVING, Texas - Jennifer Montgomery and Erin Hopkins were each named Conference USA Women's Soccer Players of the Week. Montgomery was named co-offensive player of the week with SMU's Autumn Browning, while Hopkins walked away with the defensive player of the week award.

Montgomery recorded five points on one goal and three assists as UCF defeated Rice, 3-0, and Houston, 2-1, last week. She picked up two assists Friday night against Rice, including the assist on the game-winning goal. Sunday afternoon, Montgomery recorded the first goal of the day in the 20th minute of the match. She later added an assist on Hopkins' game-winning goal.

Hopkins recorded her first two goals of the season last week with the first coming against Rice Friday night. In the 42nd minute of the match, she scored the second goal of the night off a throw in. Her second goal came as the game-winning goal against Houston Sunday afternoon. In addition to her goals, Hopkins also helped to keep opponents out of the backfield. The Golden Knights shutout Rice and held Houston to just one goal on the weekend.

For the week, Hopkins had two goals on three shots for a total of four points.

This was the first time that UCF swept the C-USA weekly honors. Kristin Bilby earned offensive player of the week Oct. 17.

Montgomery, Hopkins and the rest of the UCF women's soccer team travel to Houston this week to participate in the 2005 Conference USA Women's Soccer Championship as the No. 1 seed. The Golden Knights take on the Houston Cougars Wednesday at 1 p.m. eastern. Live stats will be available at www.ucfathletics.com.
