Volleyball Tops Tulane for C-USA Win

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Junior outside hitter Maina Heming totaled a career-high 22 kills as the UCF volleyball team held on for a 3-2 (30-27, 25-30, 30-24, 29-31, 16-14) Conference USA victory over host Tulane at the G. Rollie White Coliseum on Sunday afternoon. Junior setter Leah Alexander had a career-high 60 assists for the Golden Knights, who improve to 5-13 overall and 3-8 in league contests.

Tulane (2-8, 1-6) held a 9-5 advantage in game five, but the Golden Knights rallied, using an 11-5 run to secure the victory.

The victory snaps an eight-match losing skid for UCF, who hit .193 for the match, but posted a .227 hitting percentage in game five.

"This was a really good thing for us," said UCF head coach Meg Colado. "Tulane played really well and it was a tough match. We had our ups and downs, but we were able to pull out the win in five games."

Sophomore outside hitter Schanell Neiderworder recorded her fourth consecutive double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs. She added seven total blocks in the win.

Due to Hurricane Katrina, the Green Wave have played all of their home matches in College Station on the Texas A&M campus. UCF was playing the second of four straight contests on the road.

Sophomore outside hitter Lorin Lukas finished with 12 kills and eight digs. Freshman middle blocker Jenny Heppert had a career-best 11 kills and added six total blocks. Fellow freshman Lindsay Randazzo tallied a match-high 20 digs.

Alexander had a complete contest, adding eight digs and three service aces.

Sara Radosevic recorded a match-high 31 kills in the losing effort. She added 11 digs. Luna Rebrovic also had a double-double, finishing with 65 assists and 18 digs. Bridget Wells added 16 kills for the Green Wave.

The Golden Knights return to the court on Friday, visiting UAB for a conference match. First serve in Birmingham, Ala. is scheduled for 8 p.m. Eastern.
