ORLANDO - Due to the projected path of Hurricane Wilma, the UCF men's soccer matches against Conference USA foes East Carolina and South Carolina that were originally scheduled to be played at the UCF Soccer Complex on Friday and Sunday have been postponed. No makeup dates have been set for either contest.
"As it has been throughout this fall season, our main concern has been the safety and well-being of our student-athletes, coaches and fans when dealing with situations such as these," C-USA commissioner Britton Banowsky said. "Unfortunately, we have become all too familiar in dealing with hurricanes this fall, but once again we have had excellent communication and cooperation from our member schools in dealing with these scheduling matters."
UCF first-year head coach Brent Erwin agreed. "The safety of the student-athletes comes to mind first in these types of situations. I commend Conference USA for making the responsible decision and keeping the teams out of harm's way. I know that the schools involved were looking forward to a great weekend of competition. We hope to have the matches rescheduled soon so that the fans will have the opportunity to see some top collegiate soccer."
The Golden Knights are scheduled to return to action when they travel to Birmingham, Ala. on Oct. 28 for an 8 p.m. kickoff with UAB.
