ORLANDO - The UCF volleyball team snapped a two-match winning streak on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 3-1 (30-26, 16-30, 30-27, 30-28) Conference USA contest to visiting Memphis at the UCF Arena. The Golden Knights fall to 4-6 overall and 2-1 in league play, while Memphis pushes its record to 10-7 and 2-0.
Junior outside hitter Maina Heming led UCF, recording 15 kills. For the second straight match, sophomore outside hitter Lorin Lukas tallied a double-double, finishing with 10 kills and 10 digs.
After dropping the first game, the Golden Knights hit .452 as a team to take game two. The Tigers then hit .413 as a team in the fourth game and limited UCF to a .185 hitting percentage in game four to pick up the victory.
"They (Memphis) played really well in games three and four," said UCF head coach Meg Colado. "We did not keep up the intensity the whole way and it really showed."
In the losing effort, junior middle blocker Jana Mitchell hit .478 and totaled 13 kills. Junior setter Leah Alexander matched a career-high with 46 kills. Senior libero Katie Kohnen totaled a match-high 23 kills and sophomore outside hitter Schanell Neiderworder posted eight total blocks.
For the match, Memphis hit .329 as a team. Ashley Liford registered 23 kills. Nancy Nellans had a double-double with 18 kills and 11 digs. Laura Cote accounted for 66 assists and Christen Clayton had 17 digs.
The Golden Knights will now hit the road for a trio of conference matches, starting Tuesday at SMU. First serve in Dallas, Texas is scheduled for 8 p.m. Eastern.
