ORLANDO- UCF men's tennis head coach Bobby Cashman announced the Golden Knights' 2006 spring schedule on Tuesday. The slate features 11 home matches, including Conference USA contests against Memphis, Southern Miss and UAB.
Memphis is one of five teams that UCF will face that finished last season in the national rankings.
"We have another tough schedule this season," said Cashman. "The team has five freshmen who will have to quickly adjust to the level of competition. The schedule is difficult, but will help us get ready for the Conference USA Championship, which is going to be a competitive event."
The season will kickoff Jan.18 when the Golden Knights travel to Gainesville to face Florida. The two teams met in the first round of the NCAA Championships a year ago. The Golden Knights host their first home match at the UCF Tennis Complex on Feb. 4 against UT-San Antonio.
In late March, the squad heads west to participate in a 16-team tournament in Idaho hosted by Boise State.
UCF returns three letterwinners from last year's squad that went 14-9 and made its third straight appearance in the NCAA Championships. Cashman also welcomes five newcomers to the team.
In addition to Florida, the Golden Knights also face in-state opponents Rollins, Florida Atlantic, USF, North Florida, Jacksonville and Stetson. The team also visits perennial power Miami on the road on Feb. 18.
