DALLAS, Texas - UCF freshman Chris Mullaney earned his second consecutive Conference USA Cross Country Male Athlete of the Week Award, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Mullaney won his first collegiate title at the Disney Classic in Lake Buena Vista on Oct. 8. With a time of 25:39.96 in the 8K, he bested the more experienced Tyrone Bell, a senior at Florida Southern, by eight seconds. The Golden Knights took third in the meet.
Mullaney has been spectacular in his rookie campaign, running No.1 in the UCF lineup in all four races this season. He opened the month of October by breaking the school record in the 8K at the Loyola Lakefront with a time of 25:15. For his efforts, he was named C-USA Athlete of the Week.
"Chris earning the honor back-to-back is an impressive achievement and one of which he is very deserving," said head coach Marcia Mansur-Wentworth. "He has been a great addition to our squad, not only because he is a very talented athlete but also because he is a terrific person. I am very proud of his success."
The Golden Knights will run in their regular season finale on Oct. 14 before hosting the 2005 Conference USA Championship on Oct. 29 at Disney's Wide World of Sports.
