Men's Tennis Competes at the USF Invitational

TAMPA - Members of the UCF men's tennis team were in action at the 2005 USF Invitational from Sept. 23-24, competing against players from Miami, Troy and host USF. Sophomore Sinan Sudas and freshmen Norman Alcantara, Tarek Ben Soltane, Brandon Delanois and Brock Sakey represented the Golden Knights at the event.

In singles play, Sakey enjoyed the most success, advancing to Gold Flight finals. Sakey opened the event topping Vivak Subramian of Miami, 6-4, 6-1. In the semifinals, he outlasted USF's Juan Barragon, 4-6, 5-1, ret. Irving Morales of Troy was too much for the freshman in the finals, earning a 6-4, 6-1 victory.

Ben Soltane took the consolation title in the Green Flight. He topped his teammate, Alcantara, 6-2, 6-2, in the consolation final. Alcantara advanced to the final after beating Tiago Pasos of Troy, 6-0, 6-3, in the semifinals.

Alcantara joined Sakey in doubles play. The pair won their first round match, 8-3, over John Hoyes and P.J. Passalagua of Miami before falling in the semifinals.
