ORLANDO - UCF women's basketball head coach Gail Striegler announced the Golden Knights' 2005-06 schedule on Thursday. The slate includes games against five 2005 NCAA Tournament participants, two home tournaments and a Thanksgiving trip to San Francisco as UCF begins its first season in Conference USA.

The Golden Knights will also be featured in their first nationally televised home game when UTEP visits on Jan. 15.

"We are excited about the move into C-USA, not only because of the increased level of competition, but also the national exposure," said Striegler, who is in her seventh year the helm. "The non-conference schedule serves as a great springboard into our first season in the new league."

The Knights, who posted a 19-10 record en route to their third consecutive Atlantic Sun Regular Season Championship last season, make their debut against Florida A&M at the UCF Golden Knights Classic on Nov. 18 before facing West Virginia on Nov. 19.

The team closes out the month with a trip to Northern California for the St. Mary's College Thanksgiving Tournament, where they will face Butler in the opening round. UCF will also visit NCAA Tournament participant Santa Clara before returning to Florida.

December beings with a match-up at in-state rival Florida State on the 4th followed by a trip to Georgia Southern on the 12th. UCF then faces Central Michigan and Texas-Arlington in the second of its two tournaments - the Holiday Classic - on Dec. 16 and 17th before hosting Miami on the 20th and Quinnipiac on the 28th. FSU and UTA both qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2005.

UCF takes its first step into the new conference schedule when Southern Miss comes to Orlando on New Year's Eve before traveling to Texas for games against 2005 NCAA Tournament participants Houston and Rice.

In addition to the Cougars and Owls, the Golden Knights also play league games against Tulsa, Tulane, SMU and UTEP. They will square off in home-and-home series with Southern Miss., Marshall, East Carolina, UAB and Memphis.

All 12 conference teams will compete in the C-USA Tournament, which will be held in Dallas, Texas from March 2-5. The semifinals will be carried on CSTV, while the championship game is scheduled to be aired live on ESPN2 on March 5.
